When wolverine time-travelled and went back in time, I think the different choices he made, like going for the kill against stryker when he saw him in Indonesia and that may lead to different universes and one of them might be the one where he successfully failed, he got back there and stopped the sentinal program but got Charles and others killed, so the villains flourished and his universe went down to shit
